Hi all,

Following on from the 'oat milk' thread I thought I would add this one for any caeliacs. We are not caeliac but do have a 'vitamix' - they are not cheap but worth every penny - we make homemade 'raw' soups and all sorts of healthy smoothies and sauces. I havent tried this recipe for almond milk but it is so easy and takes seconds and thought it might help some.

N.B. Dont try making this in an ordinary blender - you will burn the motor out! The vitamix runs at 240mph so can easily cope.🙂Bev

I have been to shops today & got almond milk & oat. Watch this space ! 🙂

Hi Bev I dont have a blender anymore.
As a newbie Coeliac, can we not have cows milk then? :(

Unless you also have intolerance to dairy products, there's no need to avoid cow's milk when you have coeliac disease. It's oat milk that might be a problem, for which almond milk is a possible substitute.

Many newly diagnosed coeliac are lactose intolerant

Usually its due to "leaky gut" due to damage caused by gluten.

Frequently when the GI tract has had time to heal and rebuild the lactose intolerance ceases

Love the "Oat Milk" tastes like porrige. Should be called porrige milk 😱

You cant beat a bowl of porridge ! You mustnt have tried fruity porridge from liddle 🙂

Or porridge with chopped fresh banana and dried fruit, as made by my friend in Yorkshire Dales on Monday - always a treat whenever I stay there.

But Lidl or Aldi packets of fruity porridge are a fair substitute when camping 🙂

Nope no one will convince of eating porridge, I do not like the taste or texture. My dad used to eat it but with salt, he said thats the way to eat porridge, the scottish way lol !!!!!!!!

Doesn't that send your blood sugar through the roof?

Are you now following a low carb diet Deux?
Read several of your posts on this subject but wasn't sure if directed more towards type 2s

Not when I dose my short acting insulin appropriately, no, and particularly not having spent the previous two days fell walking / marshalling, camping overnight in cold windy conditions.
