Hi all I am recent t2 can anyone help I used to go out and drink strongbow cider obviously this is no longer an option I have heard the white ciders such as frosty jack etc is zero carb is this true and if so how can it be.... I now drink coors light thanks for any help

Assuming you're talking about light consumption rathter than 'having a session', use your meter to determine the effect on you (it may be quite different to what others are finding).

I was told to "expect to be giving up real ale" (possibly reverting to euro lager as a lower carb alternative) but the meter said it wasn't necessary.
Of course we may react very differently and my best route to improving my condition is to lose some weight so minimum/zero alcohol is something I aim for (but I can be seen in the 'spoons once or twice a year).

It certainly seems I can manage an occasional pint and if I had a (very rare) session then the immediate BG level (within reason) would not be my first concern.

Please let us know how you get on and how much effect your favourite tipple has on your BG.

Assuming ethanol contains no carbs then providing 'trendy kiddi alcopop' contains no apples (only apple flavoring Exxx) and no sugar - it could be zero carb. In the UK 'zero' on a front label can be used when the product still contains the item (but its level is very low).

A pint of lager has around 8g carb, spirits have zero and wines are quite low carb too, I've never heard about the white ciders thougjh from what I thought they were just the same as other ciders

Just don't drink any of that 'diabetic urine whisky'

I enjoy white wine a lot 🙂 and it doesn't affect my BG levels. However when I did Dry January I had alcohol free lager and the carbs in that did affect my levels.

I haven't had Strongbow recently, but have had other ciders (such as Thatchers) & it had zero effect on my BG.

I think if you started drinking white cider you'd just be swapping one set of health problems for another.

No-one, diabetic or not, should be drinking a hard drink that comes in 2l plastic bottles.

Lol Deus never in a million years am I recommending white cide but White Lightning was one of my favourite drinks in my teens/20s and my liver test this year was perfect 🙂 Sorry your post just brought back good memories of being a teenage diabetic 🙂

I rarely drink, think the last occasion was at least 3 years ago, when I do drink and it's normally larger I have to be careful as I end up go hypo so get the double effect of easy to get wobbly and complected of remembering to check if its because I had one to many or a hypo. Any carbs in what I drink don't have any effect in raising my levels, more the alcohol reducing levels.

No plans to start drinking white cider just wondered why it was zero carbs when normal cider is high in carbs

Thats why I always prefer the 3litre special offers. Local corner shop sells two with a pack of toilet roll for £7. That's the weekend sorted sir.

On a serious point though, my health takes a noticeable dip the week following any drinking (even just a few pints and not getting near drunk). So now the booze is saved for very special occasions. Maybe not even new year this time round.

I once spent Christmas totally dry & must admit it was one of my best Christmas's
