Hi
Being a parent of a recently diagnosed daughter I wondered if anyone could let me know how you feel after high Bg and high ketones. My daughter had high levels this morning. We managed to get them down and she went back to school this afternoon, but I am wondering if there are any after effects of a hyper eg tiredness, grumpy/moodiness headache so I know what to expect when she comes home.
I know everyone is different, but any feed back would be helpful.

Thanks
Lynn

When my son is high (no ketones), he feels sluggish and headachy. Ketones make him feel really unwell. If his levels were high in the morning but he had no ketones, I would still send him to school unless he was feverish or had an underlying illness causing the highs (obviously I would have given extra insulin to correct the high). I would want him to call home at break time with his BG reading to make sure things were going in the right direction! I would also encourage him to drink plenty of water, but that advice tends to fall on deaf ears 😉

Hope your daughter is feeling ok now. 🙂

My daughter says she can taste the ketones, she gets headachy and lethargic . I would do the same as redkite, daughter must have the same deaf ears!!!

Thanks for your replies.
She was fine when she came out of school, if a little tired (but that may be due to a late night).
Her levels have returned to 'normal' after a cannula change. So alls well for now.
