I have been testing for about three weeks and keeping a diary of the results for the nurse who I see on Monday. She told me to keep within the range of 5 to 9 and mostly I have managed to keep between 5 and 7. However I have just tested (after lunch) and it was 4.9 which I find confusing. I had my usual breakfast, not much exercise and a good lunch of three vegetarian sausages, some quinoa, two tomatoes and some celery. I also ate two pears, one at coffee time and one after lunch so I definitely wasn't expecting such a low reading.

Heya,
I find that the heat can affect the readings, is it hot or humid in your location? Quite frequently in the hot weather, hypos are common, the last hot spell we had, I had a few in one night!😱 It was annoying and kept distrupting my beloved sleeps!
Also, 4.9 is only just under the range and perhaps a few points under a range of 5 isn't too alarming. However, keep an eye on the readings if you are going out driving...as my DSN says '5 to drive' as 4 is the floor'

If it is the heat, if maybe worthwhile to graze on fruit to maintain your levels. I am not too sure what quinoa is, but the rest of your lunch doesn;t contain much carbohydrate, this could be another reason why you have dropped a little.

I'm wondering if it's just a freaky Saturday, I've had a 5.6 reading one-hour after a lunch that should of sent me into the 7's.

OK, I've moved around a bit more then I would on a weekday, but I've done a 2K walk prior to lunch before and only dropped 0.2!

You can't take one reading as an indication of anything in particular, meters are not very accurate instruments and can be up to 20% out. You should be monitoring trends in the readings. so 4.9 could be a lot higher (5.9) or even lower, your body should tell you if it's much lower. I can usually feel the difference when I get into the low 5s (as indicated by my MyLife Pura meter which reads lower than any other meter I have tried). A waste of test strips but if you get a reading that is a long way out of what you are expecting, thoroughly wash your hands, dry them fully and retest.

That's really good advice and I will certainly do it if I get a low reading again. My next test is before bed. I am interested to see what happens then.

BTW unless you are on medication that might cause you to hypo, I wouldn't worry about readings below 5, the advice about driving is only if you are on insulin.

I tested at 5.9 at bed time and 6.5 this morning so I am feeling relaxed.
