Apart from the issue that Sainsbury’s label their carb values for after food is cooked !!!! And did not give the info about dried weight becomes ..., I finally worked out the carbs fro our put lentils this evening from another source.

However I am now having a repeated hypo after our meal. I extended the delivery of insulin over 1 hour but obviously got it wrong. I vaguely remember on DAFNE being told to halve the dose of insulin, but thought that that was because of the slow release.

Any ideas most welcome readyfor next time.

I don’t count lentils or any other legume as they are mostly fibre and take ages to “ get through” that could explain the hypo. I learnt that on DAFNE, before that I did count them.

I have tend to found the ‘dose about half the total carbs’ adjustment works for most pulses for me. I didn’t get it from DAFNE as I’ve not done that!

Thanks both for the info. On third hypo this evening, so it will be a firefighting exercise tonight.
Ho hum. The joys of learning as we go along. I don’t think I had spotted the link from pulses and problems, but shall now look for the patterns.

I had thought that carbs on this side of the world took account of fibre, but obviously the pulses are so fibrous they fool the system.

Thanks again

I think I have a link for differences in the structure of the carbs in pulses. I will try to look it up.

There is a simple answer to this question.

Most of the carbohydrates in pulses simply aren’t digestible, so they don’t affect your BG. Nonetheless, they still have to be listed as an ingredient. That’s what causes the confusion. Bolus for about a third of the carb content should see you right, but even that may be too much. It varies with the pea or bean.

This is also the cause of farting after eating beans, it’s those undigested carbs fermenting in the colon, where they only harm the environment rather than your BG.

That sounds like an excellent excuse for the ‘interruptions’!!!
