I had a routine mammogram just over a week ago. I've received a letter today inviting(?) me back for further tests on Tuesday. I can't feel any lumps and I don't have any other symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this, and what was the outcome?

I know that it's more likely to be OK than not, but I'm feeling a bit panicky at the moment.

Sorry to hear that Annimay! I've never had a mammogram, but I had to repeat my smear 3 times in one year just to find out that I'm OK. So hopefully this is nothing to worry about.

No Panicking yet Annimay - it may just be that the pictures weren't clear enough and need repeating.

I had to have a mammogram a few years ago as was bleeding from the nipple. I was the first appointment and men were not allowed past one room, so was alone. I had my mammogram and was sent back into the womens only waiting room, where I sat all afternoon until 5pm waiting to be called in again. I kept trying to catch the nurses eye but felt she was deliberately ignoring me, so went into thought overdrive and was convinced I had the C and they always waited until everyone had gone to tell you - it turned out the doc had put my file on the wrong pile and therefore i wasn't discharged after 10 mins....a whole afternoon worrying over nothing - I can laugh now!

You could give them a call on Monday and see if they can tell you anything?

Try not to worry - easier said than done.

My Mum had a recall after a mammogram - it turned out they hadn't taken a very good picture and needed to redo it.

Its probably nothing - but if it isn't the earlier these things are found the better.

My relatives in the US have mammograms every year - one had a really small but aggressive tumour discovered. She is fine now - and that was more than 20 years ago.

Hope all goes well for you.

Hi Annimay try not to be overly worried about this, it could be something that hasn't shown up clearly and they would like to retest you. I had to have a mammogram when I was in my middle thirties, luckly it was not bad news, but yes, it was a bit scary. The unknown is more frightening. Big hugs (((( )))) and take care. Sheena

Try not to worry can be any number of things like they need to retake the picture as its not clear.

I have a mamogram every year and have occasionally had to have the test again. If you cant feel any lumps and it was routine im sure all will be ok.

Easier said than done i know.

Just wanted to add that even if there is a lump, most breast lumps are benign cysts or fibroadenomas. I've had several of these, and they can do further tests with ultrasound or a needle biopsy and you get the result on the same day. Please let us know how you get on, but try not to worry.

Thanks for your replies. My head isn't worried as I know the chance of a major problem is fairly small, but my stomach will insist on having butterfles!. I'll let you know how I get on - my appointment is on Tuesday.

Hi Annimay thinks a high percentage of people who get called back for a second appointments are usually due to an unclear picture being taken.

Hope all goes well for Tuesday

Ooh I know what you mean about the head being ok but the stomach butterflies are going crazy - not a good feeling. Hope all goes well for you but perhaps you could try ringing to see if they will tell you the reason for the letter. Hugs.x

It is probably nothing to worry about. It happened to one of my friends and it turned out she coughed while the xray machine was doing its job and it changed the look of the picture. It is just a precaution to make sure they gt the best picture they can.

I went to the breast clinic today - they repeated the mammogram and did an ultrasound. There is definitely something there - but very small. They showed me the mammogram and I could see it as a little white noddle(not strictly a technical term that!). The radiologist wasn't sure what it is so I also then had a biopsy and will get the results next Monday.

I've got what looks like a pop art painting on my left boob from all the pen marks when they were positioning me for the biopsy. I'm a bit sore but otherwise OK at present

Anita, I do hope that all goes well for you on Monday and the biopsy proves to be nothing serious. Will be thinking of you,

Take care,

Shirl
