Hiya everyone,

Ok, so as some of you know, I posted a little over a month ago feeling rather down as I'd received a lot of bad news in a short space of time, and I didn't really know if I was coming or going. Well, I just though I'd post to let you all know that I am doing soooo much better now. I've been talking to a lovely lady at the union advice centre, who has suggested counselling, something I'm looking into for in the new year, as I'm actually going back to Kent this weekend.

I also had my annual review today, and got my hba1c result back. 6.0% :D Couldn't be happier. So I've gone from 16.7% at diagnosis, to 7.2 to 6.0% in 9 months!!!!! Over the moon, as you can imagine!! Expecting it to slowly creep back up now as I'm managing to reduce the number of hypos I have, but nonetheless, cannot complain at all about that result.

The only thing that seems to be an issue is my blood pressure. It's slightly high for a girl of my age (18) so I have to go back to my GP in three months to have it checked again, and if there's no improvement, I have to go onto tablets to help reduce it. So if anyone knows of things I could do to get it down, that'd be great!!!!

I hope I find everyone well and enjoying the Christmas period!!

Vicki 🙂

Hi Vicki, sounds like good news all round, except for the slight blip on the BP. One thing I'd recommend because I have the same problem (except I'm a lot older!) is getting home BP monitor. The ones with the arm cuffs are better than the wrist ones - I got one of these: Omron MX2 Digital Automatic Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor. It helps to be able to take your own readings a few times a week when you are not feeling stressed by the 'pressure' of having it taken at the GPs, and you can show the results to the GP to better inform them about whether you need medication.

Also, regular, aerobic exercise really helps, like running or rowing etc., plus cut out as much salt as you can from your food - I no longer cook with it and always check that any pre-prepared food does not have too much salt in it. Good luck with everything, let us know how things go! 🙂

What a lovely positive post and well done on your hba1c - that is quite a drop and hopefully if you get on top of the hypo's it should level out. Like Northerner says - lots of exercise and a good healthy diet should help with the BP - and cut down on salt.🙂Bev

Brill news Vicki!! xx

That's great news, well done on finding out where you can get help and also on the A1C!

xx

What a magnificent result - gives me something to aim for - congratulations

Well done you are doing really well 🙂

Sounds like you have worked hard and got brilliant results. It is a nice positive posting and I am pleased you are feeling so much better.

Thanks everyone!!

And thanks Northener for the advice about blood pressure. Next term I'm thinking of signing up for exercise classes at the gym on campus and then if that doesn't help, I know I've done all I can to reduce it before they put me on medication 🙂

Vicki 🙂
